4th gig at Speech Motion results in a re-think

15:17 - posted by Rowan Finch

No suit this time, but like last time there was a mixed reception to my letters and their replies. The forty-ish audience members were predominantly wannabe poets /film makers with a smattering of newish stand-up acts...oh and a dog (seriously). Definitely feel this is a venue geared more for the arts rather than comedy and needs to be avoided in the future...unless I start to write poems of course. I really feel I've got to get the audience to 'buy' into me and why I write my letters much much more. I need a 'warmer' delivery style. The letters themselves are good, they aren't laughing wholeheartedly because they don't know how to take me. My act is very much still work in progress.

Venue: The Horse and Groom, Curtain Road

3rd gig at The Lion's Den Comedy Club

16:45 - posted by Rowan Finch

In a dingy basement at 11:05 pm my name was called (act number 29 out of 32). The audience (made up predominently of other acts who had already performed) just wanted to go home. They didn't know how to take my letters. Plus, I really don't think my pin striped suit helps. I look like I've just come from the city. I also got the shakes slightly.

Gonna have to re-think my look or comment on it. Plus I think I now know my first letter doesn't get a big response like my second and third. Again I will have to change it for another or change the order.

Venue: The Cross Kings at Kings Cross
Audience: 40+

2nd gig in 24 hours an even bigger hit!

15:49 - posted by Rowan Finch

I decided to strike while the iron was hot. Very glad I did because by simply slowing my delivery down a notch, with the same three letters, I got even bigger laughs compared with last night. Can't wait to do my next one.

I performed at the Desperately Seeking Stagetime comedy club in Marylebone. There were 40+ people there.

1st gig at the Cavendish Arms a success!

11:16 - posted by Rowan Finch

Last night did my first five minute open mic slot at the Cavendish Arms, Stockwell, in front of approximately forty people. It was a success. Quilliant for a first gig one might say.

Later today I'll be writing to English Heritage informing them of this historical event. Hopefully a blue plaque with my name on it will be up by the end of the week.

Hoping to do my first one next Wednesday (13th Jan) in front of a select few. Can't wait.

See you all in 2010.
