24th gig - my most relaxed performance!

16:08 - posted by Rowan Finch

Well it was mainly a room full of acts and the calibre of them was quite varied. I thought I was in the top 3 out of 10 - if not the best.

This was my first gig when I improvised a lot. Had to because the audience was so unresponsive.

It was my most relaxed performance.

Material covered: Star Trek, Mills and Boon

23rd gig...another comp!

Probably did my best performance tonight. There were 12 acts. Didn't win, nor was I runner up. All were good, except one, so standard was high(ish). Need to carry on what I'm doing, carry on with my tweaks...it's just so tiring performing and writing/comedic ideas don't come easy to me.

Kate and Martin thanks for your support - glad you witnessed it.

22nd gig - my first competition

I was seventh on out of ten acts. The nerves were heighten due to this being a competition, but I managed them well. I performed my material very well and my new extended Star Trek set was well received - might have to tweak it a fraction when I review my recording of last night though. (Mills and Boon was definitely weaker than Star trek - it needs something to update it or make it more interactive). Overall I was very pleased with myself and really thought there was a chance of me being one of the lucky four who would go through into the next round. I scored myself as being in the top 3/4. One act that got through should not have - but they had support from many people in the audience (the audience making up a third of the votes). I took no one along with me and missed out on a slot. Several people came up to me and complimented me on my set and performance. I felt like a comedian tonight. My star trek material is getting stronger and stronger. Next gig tomorrow! And it's a comp! They're like London buses aren't they...

21st gig at Monkey Business - Camden

What do you get when you have sixteen acts, seven paying audience members, two bar staff and the organiser? A lifeless, tortuous, largely unfunny, night of comedy.

Everyone had tumbleweed moments, mixed in with the odd laugh or two (or possibly coughs - it was very hard to tell). Saying this I did well. Did a short, sharp, tight four minutes. Very pleased with my performance, mic technique and audience response.
